Last Saturday’s referendum was declared invalid after failing to attract the required 50 percent of registered voters in Slovakia. But that doesn’t mean it was unsuccessful, according to its backers.
There was fresh fodder for corruption junkies last week, as two ministers in the new Radičová cabinet exposed several more public procurement scams that they pinned on their predecessors in the former Fico administration. Transport Minister Figeľ orders inquiry into public procurement at railway operator and Defence Minister Galko claims his predecessors misspent €8 million on computers.
A corruption watchdog has filed a criminal complaint against Supreme Court Chief Justice Štefan Harabin, alleging that he continues to personally assign cases to specific judges, rather than having the cases assigned electronically as required by law.
And as you’ll doubtless be relieved to know, the results of Parliamentary Speaker Richard Sulík’s drugs tests are in, and they are negative.
