Hundreds of thousands of Poles on Sunday attended the funeral of their president Lech Kaczynski and his wife Maria, who were among the 96 victims of the April 10 air crash in Russia. Slovakia was represented at the rites in Krakow by President Ivan Gašparovič and Prime Minister Robert Fico.

Slovak airspace remains closed since Friday due to a cloud of ash from an Icelandic volcano that has grounded traffic over much of Europe.

Many of the 18 political parties launched their campaigns last week. They will be competing in the June 12 parliamentary elections.

Fico and Mikloš lock horns on economy. Staying with politics, left-wing Prime Minister Robert Fico clashed over fiscal policy with his rivals in the opposition centre-right SDKU party.

Something smells in Pezinok, a town about 20 kilometres northeast of Bratislava. An illegal garbage dump only 400 metres from the town’s centre remains open despite a Supreme Court decision from last year that the dump violates the law.

On a final note, Tom tells his audience that his wife is an election candidate for a political party and shares his thoughts on what it means being married to a politician.
